Michal holds a Master’s degree in Modern History from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. During his studies, he also spent time as an exchange student at the Lomonosov Moscow State University.
From 2011 to 2015 he worked for the Imre Kertész Kolleg Jena as a student research assistant, and held internships at various research institutions, including the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, German Historical Institutes in Warsaw and Moscow, and Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation.
