CHIBOW researcher presents at the Ural Federal University in Ekaterinburg, Russia

In early September 2016, ESR Lukas had the opportunity to present his research project on British children fathered by British soldiers in post-war Austria at the Ural Federal University in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

On September 5, 2016, Lukas participated in the international conference "Historical Memory in Europe and Russia", organized by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Research on Consequences of War, Cluster Geschichte, in cooperation with the Ural Federal University. In his presentation, Lukas focused on his preliminary research results regarding the social and political circumstances under which childern fathered by British soldiers and born to Austrian mothers grew up after World War II. He shed light on the on the conditions for the children’s upbringing as well as their social integration.

From September 7 to September 9, 2016, Lukas participated in the Summer School "History and Memory", organised by the Austrian-Russian Commission of Historians (ÖRHK). Based on three case studies, his presentation reflected upon the interrelations of memory and narration as well as their implications for conducting or analysing life-story interviews.
