CHIBOW researcher presents his project and first preliminary results within a summer school of Czech language and culture.

On 22 August 2016 Michal Korhel, based in Czech Republic at the University of J. E. Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem presented his project and first preliminary results within the XXV. Colloquia Ustensia, summer school of Czech language and culture.

In his presentation in front of German participants of the summer school Michal focused on the policy the Czechoslovak government used to deal with children born of mixed Czech-German relationships in the first years after the Second World War (1945-1948) as well as its the implementation on a local level. Based on archival documents and already published oral history interviews he was able to provide a brief analysis of government’s policy, compare it with the post-war experiences of Czech-German children and to indicate the differences between the theory and practice.

As the family background of some of the summer school’s participants is connected to Czechoslovakia’s post-war events, in the following discussion Michal gained also valuable input and information regarding the possible partners for his future oral history interviews.
