Congratulations to Dr Allen Kiconco on her new book!
Many congratulations to our partner Dr Allen Kiconco on the publication of her first book, Gender, Conflict and Reintegration in Uganda: Abducted Girls, Returning Women. This important work is based on the detailed original research she conducted for her PhD thesis at the University of Birmingham. It considers the difficult situations that girls, abducted by the Lord’s Resistance Army, confronted when they returned home and focuses on the challenges of reintegration. Her book explores how formerly abducted girls/women navigate hostilities and the effects of ongoing social stigma associated with abduction. Kiconco highlights the importance of understanding reintegration as a process that is enduring, changeable and deeply impactful for possibilities of post-war rebuilding. This book is essential reading for researchers, legislators and specialists examining issues of conflict, post-war reconstruction, gender and African politics.
A fantastic achievement. The CHIBOW network looks forward to engaging with Dr Kiconco's crucial work going forwards.
