GRACE Uganda Wins a Rights for Time Grant for Impact Research Project

Congratulations to CHIBOW collaborator Dr Eunice Otuko Apio, who led a team consisting of network coordinator, Sabine Lee (University of Birmingham), and other long-standing collaborators Dheeraj Akolkar (Vardo Films), Babra Otuku (Global Reconciliation Advocacy Community Engagement - Grace Uganda) and Toneva Peace (Psychologist - Grace Uganda) to win a Rights for Time (https://www.rights4time.com/) grant for an impact research project, ‘Film-in Participatory Action Learning (F-PAL) for the integration of CBOW in northern Uganda’. The F-PAL project aims to increase public knowledge and understanding of the challenges associated with being a CBOW in post conflict societies, particularly in northern Uganda where this topic remains a taboo and CBOW continue to sit on the margins of society. The award-winning film ‘The Wound is where the Light Enters’ (produced by Vardo Films) will be used to moderate a Participatory Action Learning process among rural communities for the integration of CBOW. Participatory Action Learning is particularly well-suited in rural communities with low levels of literacy such as in rural northern Uganda. The second part of the project will use a qualitative approach (focus group discussions and interviews) to collect data on the depth of understanding and extent of support in integrating CBOW before and after screening of the film in 4 different communities in northern Uganda.
