Webinar organised by STAND SPEAK RISE UP!

On 8th July 2021, CHIBOW co-ordinator Sabine Lee and CHIBOW partner Ajna Jusic participated in a webinar on the experiences of children born of conflict-related gender-based violence.

Hosted by STAND SPEAK RISE UP (SSRU; https://www.standspeakriseup.lu/), a non-profit organisation under the patronage of the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, the meeting started with a screening of Mauvais Souvenir (https://vimeo.com/177722581) a 2016 documentary about the Children conceived in the mass rapes of the Rwandan Genocide.

This was followed by a panel discussion, chaired by Philippe Majerus (SSRU) in which Mildred Mapingure (Survivor Empowerment and Promoting Awareness Trust, Zimbabwe), Ajna Jusic (Forgotten Children of War, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Sabine Lee (University of Birmingham, UK) discussed the challenges faced by children born of war rape and their mothers across the world.

Considering among others the Call to Action by the Grand Duchess (https://www.standspeakriseup.lu/assets/images/Plea_Plaidoyer-Enfants-n%C3%A9s-du-viol.pdf) they also explored mitigation strategies that could be employed to ensure that the rights of children born of war rape, enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, along the rights of all war-affected children are implemented and no child is left behind.
